With the explosion of tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, the way users access information is changing profoundly. Traditional search engines are gradually being challenged by natural language assistants — an evolution that is upending the rules of SEO and giving rise to a new discipline: GEO (Generative Engine Optimization).

From SEO to GEO: a quiet revolution

Until now, search optimisation meant positioning content in the results of classic search engines, by optimising keywords, tags and internal linking. But with generative AI, answers are synthesised directly in the assistant's interface. Users no longer click through ten blue links: they ask a question and get an answer.
